On Thursday April 13, 2023, the new U.S Ambassador to Mali, her Excellency Madame Rachna Korhonen visited the International Center for Excellence in Research (ICER Mali), a collaboration between the U.S. National Institutes of Health and the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB).
During the visit, Ambassador Korhonen visited some of ICER Mali’s research laboratories such as the Biosafety Laboratory Level 3 (BSL3) and the Immuno-Core laboratory of the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC), the laboratory of genomics of the Malaria Research and Training Center (MRTC) Parasitology department, the Insectarium of the MRTC-Entomology department, and the Information Technology (IT) data center.
This guided visit was an opportunity for the new Ambassador to have a better understanding of the research activities of these laboratories, and to learn more about the mission of ICER Mali. She also met with USTTB and ICER Mali leadership, as well as interviewed the Researchers at the center, many of whom attended U.S. universities.
