Seydou Doumbia, MD, PhD

Seydou Doumbia is the Director of the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC) and former Dean of the Medical School and Dentistry of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB). Prof. Doumbia holds an MD degree from Bamako and a PhD in Epidemiology from Tulane University, New Orleans in the USA.

Prof. Doumbia is the Program Director of several research consortia including the NIAID’s West Africa International Center of Excellence in Malaria Research (ICEMR), the Tropical Medicine Research Center (TMRC) Program on Neglected Tropical Infectious Diseases, and Chair of the West African Consortium for Clinical Research on Emerging Pathogens (WAC-CREP), a network including Mali, Guinea Conakry, Liberia and Sierra Leone, aimed to harmonized clinical research for multi-center studies and sub-regional preparedness for response to epidemics of emerging pathogens.

 Since 2003, Professor Doumbia has been involved in bioinformatics/genomics capacity building through the training of more than 50 Africans junior scientists on state-of-art bioinformatics and genomics with funding from WHO/TDR and NIH/NIAID. His work at USTTB included the development of master’s training program in public health and new curricula in public health including Bioinformatics, research ethic, implementation research, Disaster Risk Management. His collaboration involves numerous partners including TDR, the Fogarty International Center at NIH, NIAID, Johns Hopkins University, Tulane University, George Washington University, KIT Royal Tropical Institute of Amsterdam, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and several Universities and Research institutions in Africa.
