Mali is a vast Sahelian country (1,241,238 km2), surrounded by seven countries and covered for 2/3 of its surface area by desert zones. Administratively, Mali is divided into 10 administrative regions, with the district of Bamako, Mali’s capital, having the rank of a region.

Our website helps you have details about not only the administrative and research departments at ICER Mali, but also about the activities of our laboratories, which contribute to the treatment, prevention and even elimination of infectious and tropical diseases.

ICER Mali owes its excellence to the quality of its researchers (doctoral training in American and European universities), the results of its research on infectious tropical diseases (malaria, HIV, TB), neglected tropical diseases (filariasis, leishmaniasis, recurrent fevers), emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases (Lassa fever, Ebola virus, COVID-19, etc.) and to its international collaboration with top American, European and African universities. In addition, Mali-ICER has a long-standing collaboration with research centers and institutes around the world.

ICER Mali has numerous field research sites across Mali and an independent administrative and financial management system provided by Mali Service Center (MSC) for the management of research funds and the careers of the research staff.

An independent institutional ethics committee manages the ethical aspects of research projects involving humans.
ICER Mali includes several laboratories specializing in molecular biology, genomics, immunology, epidemiology/GIS, bioinformatics, database management centers, a biosafety level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory for research into tuberculosis and viral diseases, and a clinical research laboratory certified by the College of American Pathologists (CAP).

Basic facilities include a library/conference room, a room for refrigerators and freezers (-20oC and -80oC), a motor pool, sample and data storages, administrative offices, a communication network (satellite connection giving access to the NIH network). All the laboratories are fully equipped with modern international-standard equipment (PCR machines, real-time PCR machines, ELISA and ELISPOT readers, modern nucleic acid sequencing platforms (Sanger, Illumina, etc.) and parasite culture facilities, among others. In addition, ICER Mali has an animal facility and insectariums to support research projects. In addition, ICER Mali has numerous research sites throughout the country.
